Job Description
Design, develop and test products and components; develop non-routine test and evaluation procedures. Work with Director of Product Engineering, Lab Supervisor, Drafting Supervisor and other Engineers to enable efficient channeling of workload through department. Manage Project Team and assigned projects. Report progress and individual project status to Director of Product Engineering and/or Vice President of Product Engineering as requested.
Job Requirements
*Design and develop product component parts, product subassemblies and product complete assemblies according to company and industry standards. *Develop test methods, instrumentation and procedures not covered by recognized Approval Agency requirements or rating codes. Administer and carry out these test programs with team’s engineers and lab technicians. *Formulate product design specifications and update these specifications as required. *Be thoroughly knowledgeable about and test product in accordance with the Approval Agency requirements of concern, such as Underwriters Laboratories, ASME, AHRI, and Canadian Standards Association. *Interact with other departments. Participate as needed with Marketing/Sales to address distributors and other customers. Provide needed technical information/assistance to other departments within the company. Manage manual and documentation development and assist Marketing with technical training material for new product launches. *Work with laboratory and drafting managers, communicating project team needs and activities underway to enable efficient balance of work within departments; i.e. assignments/requests for overtime, notification of available time of team member(s) or needs for additional resources. *Schedule activities within team resources relative to the design and development of a product or project assigned by Director of Product Engineering and/or Vice President of Product Engineering. Update schedule as required with Program Manager and resolve conflicts as necessary. *Assign and supervise specific tasks within project team in a manner that will allow for efficient completion of project goals. Organize and track progress of specific tasks critical to project completion. Report progress to Director of Engineering and/or Vice President of Product Engineering as requested, in addition to the compilation of a monthly progress report. *Organize and assign ECR work within project team as assigned by Director of Product Engineering. Report status of active ECR’s. *Take leadership role within team. Utilize management techniques within project team to encourage development of productive interactive environment. *Develop Technical and Professional Competencies in Engineering Team members. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE and CERTIFICATION: *BS in Engineering Field, Preferably Mechanical or Equivalent Experience SKILLS: *Prefer 5 years experience in the following areas: - Combustion - Heat Transfer - Hydronics - Appliance Design - Project Management – From design concept to manufacturing - Personnel Management – Team Leadership ABILITIES: *Prefer Training in the following areas: - Personnel Management - Project Management - Spreadsheets - Word Processing *Relocation assistance provided.
